SilkShield² Machining Fluid
SilkShield² is a purpose-built cutting fluid developed specifically for machining glass ceramics and hybrid ceramic materials. It has been reformulated to deliver cleaner cutting, longer tool life and more reliable machining performance in high-speed dental milling environments.
At its core, SilkShield² is a silicone-stabilised synthetic soluble cutting fluid. When mixed with water it forms a stable coolant that lubricates the cutting interface while efficiently removing heat and debris from the machining zone. This helps protect delicate ceramic structures during milling and reduces the risk of edge chipping or micro-cracking that can occur with inadequate lubrication.
The formulation actively supports tool longevity. By maintaining a consistent lubricating film at the cutting surface, SilkShield² reduces friction and mechanical stress on burs and diamond tools, helping them stay sharper for longer and maintaining predictable cutting performance throughout their service life.
SilkShield² is also engineered to keep the milling system itself clean and stable. The synthetic base and silicone stabilisation help prevent material buildup inside pumps, plumbing and coolant lines while protecting metal components from corrosion. This results in smoother coolant flow, reduced maintenance and a more stable machining environment over time.
The result is a cutting fluid that improves machining efficiency while protecting both the restoration and the equipment producing it.
